  1. While I’m not at ComicCon, I will be typing away at my 30K draft (it includes dragons!), trying not to drown my Animal Crossing character in fan-appropriate apparel, and working on my local librarians to buy a copy of Vicious for the shelves.

  2. I will be painting the outside of my house in 60 degree weather after working for 9 hours a day at the office. πŸ™ Yippie.

  3. Since I live in NYC but didn’t buy tickets in time, while I am #NotAtComicCon I will likely hang out in the neighborhood and try to absorb some of the NYCC culture vicariously when attendees duck out for a bagel or a slice of pizza.

  4. Ill be finishing up the WoT series…took so long to get back to it because i didnt want it to end πŸ™

  5. I’ll be getting ready to move while I’m #NotAtComicCon. I have a bookcase that could be filled out with some new books!

  6. Still furloughed but going to see “Gravity’ on a gift cards we’ve been saving for a raining day. #notatcomiccon

  7. While not at Comic Con, I’ll be playing board games with a group of friends and writing a research paper for my Operating Systems Security class.

  8. While I am not at ComicCon, I will be refinishing my kitchen that the contractors screwed up. I have 3 days to get it done before having to go back to work. πŸ™

  9. This week I will be finishing a research paper looking at how the Book of Revelation matches up flawlessly with The Lord of the Rings. Should prove to be an enlightening weekend!

  10. I will probably spend the weekend catching up on Legends of Korra and binge watching Veronica Mars when I’m not at work and of course reading some great books.

  11. I will be taking a radioactive idodine pill to prepare for my thyroid uptake and scan. I’d much rather be at Comic-Con, but I have to stay away from pregant women and kids for two days. 😐

  14. Reading the Ender’s Shadow series and dreaming of them one day making a movie for Bean. Hell yeah,

  15. i will be working at my brand new job, searching for a house, and playing skyrim and/or assassin’s creed 3

  16. I’m going to try my Zombiecide board game expansions that arrive in the mail this week and go for a hike to enjoy the fall foliage.

  17. I will be working on the recording of an audio book, not a very exciting one unfortunately but informative. And then, go and be an actress in a haunted house.

  21. I will be writing poems about rain while I am not at New York Comic Con. And each will have something to do with each thing in the swag bag. Probably. But that also sounds like a lot of work and I would rather eat or something. But probably.

  22. While sadly not at Comic Con, I anticipate as a family we’ll be kicking the vestiges of flu-cold-whattheheckhappenedtome to the curb this weekend. Plus, the crazy avid runner in the family will do a Halloween 5K while sick and attempt to not implode. Totally fabulous, huh?! πŸ™‚

  41. While not at NY Comic Con I’ll be working on my daughters latest cosplay costum, and watching the Walking Dead marathon. So it won’t be all bad.

  43. While not at comic con I’ll be working and taking care of my sick child. Maybe next year! πŸ™

  44. #NotAtComicCon While not a ComicCon, I will be finishing up a 20 page, collaborative education assignment.

  45. This week instead of attending NYCC, I’ll be preparing for our annual Harry Potter Party! This includes making chocolate frogs, pumpkin pasties, and cauldron cakes, coming up with questions for the Trivia Tournament, and making wands to be given away as prizes. It’s a fun time every year!

  57. I am completing the work for a contract which isn’t renewing in November so I’ll need the books to keep me from falling into a deep funk as I decide what I want to do with the time I won’t be working.

  58. Other than the usual hamster wheel of my job and enjoying what passes for autumn weather in Cali, I’ll be finishing the first two books in Joseph Nassise’s “Jeremiah Hunt” trilogy so I can start reading an ARC of the third installment, WATCHER OF THE DARK.

  59. Weeelllll…. my first thought that while I’m #NotAtComicCon I would be wanting to be at ComicCon. πŸ˜€ In reality, I’m probably going to the doc. πŸ˜›

  66. I’ll be building a crib, writing, going for a stroll in the park and seeing the inimitable Goblin play a show.

  67. While I’m #NotAtComicCon, Saturday I have ungodly early hour half-marathon training (which is admittedly not fabulous, but doing the Austin Half Marathon in February will be). Then Saturday evening, I’m going to a showing of Serenity & Dr Horrible benefitting Equality Now & the local domestic violence shelter. So that adds up to fabulous.

  68. I’ll be working my way through this pile of books that keeps getting larger, seemingly by the day. . .

  69. I’ll be playing the newest PokΓ©mon game, while watching James Bond movies with my brother. #notatcomiccon

  70. I will be preserving fall produce! Canning green tomatoes… cooking quinces… and reading. Reading, reading, reading…. #NotatComicCon.

  71. Besides wishing I could make it to NYCC, I’ll be catching up on some tv, reading, and trying to come up with some characters for NaNoWriMo.

  72. I’ll be helping to manage our swim meet. Kind of like a Comic Con due to all the people packing the pool deck, only with more water and less comics.

  73. I will be working on costumes for myself and my 8 month old daughter for the next convention we will be attending.

  74. While not at ComicCon this weekend, I will be welcoming our third grandchild, and first granddaughter, into the world. And looking forward to teaching her all about the wonders of books!

  81. There well be some doing of laundry, some cleaning of floors and other horizontal surfaces, feeding the dog and taking him for a walk. Oh and there will be too much of getting up early to go to work and driving to and from in bad traffic. So a full and fulfilling life that a little SF would bring a little joy into…

  82. This week while I’m not at New York Comic-Con, I’ll be identifying inch-long, freshwater fish….and loving it

  88. While I’m #NotAtComicCon I’ll be working my second job as house manager at a comedy club. I’ll also be trying to catch up on all the video I’ve missed this week while working on a web site for my badge business. Thrilling stuff all around (but I’d rather be at Comic Con).

  89. This week I’ll be finishing up my own novel, baking like a demon for friends and family, and prepping for my ultimate holiday–Halloween!

  90. This week I will be attending the International Food & Wine Festival at Epcot. NY is a bit further than I can afford to travel at the moment, alas.

  91. This week, while not attending NYCC, I will be educating at risk teens at an alternative school, re-insulating/remodeling a room in my mother’s home, supporting my wife in her bid to quit smoking by being active and spending quality time with her…maybe see a nephew’s football game…in Alaska.

  92. This weekend, while #notatComicCon, I will be playing tabletop games with friends and taking my wife to the movies. Next year hopefully will be at #NYCC

  93. While not at NYCC, I will be doing parent conferences and playing computer games. And certainly avoiding the music festival in town.

  94. I will be traveling back from Australia after doing an internship in a research lab studying virus evolution πŸ™‚ or I guess πŸ™ because I’m #NotAtComicCon

  95. In the world of comics and associated culture, I’ve recently found the delightful Marvel version of Puzzle Quest on Android… Quite fun, and one of the things I’ll be doing while not at ComicCon.

  96. While I’m #NotAtComicCon, I’ll be prepping for Nanowrimo by working on an outline for my urban fantasy novel, knitting a TMNT coffee cozy for my husband, attending a birthday party for a makerspace, and limping my way through a C25k program. Looking forward to it! πŸ™‚

  109. I’ll be going to go leaf-viewing at the State Park, because the STATE parks are still open! Leaves are at peak right now, but I wish I could be at NYCC instead! Thanks for the prize pack!

  110. Attempting not to hyperventilate because I am sending my ms to beta readers, for the first time. Instead of writhing in horror at yet another stupid typo in that book I will finish the last chapter on another and take out my anxiety on the elliptical instead of baking. Maybe I’ll bake a little? And I promised myself that I would start and finish at least one of the books on my kindle that has been waiting forever and ever because I’ve been too spastic to sit down and relax. I’d rather be at ComicCon though.

  111. Sadly I was in NYC last weekend. Always a weekend early for Cons.

Likely will be finishing a couple hundred pages of The Way of Kings and prototyping a new website in AngularJS/HTML for an interview.

  112. While I’m #NotAtComicCon I’ll be catching up on reading novels while my husband Perseus his acting career!

  113. Oh my goodness, this looks amazing! I can’t wait to read so many of these. I wish I could have made it to NYCC. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

  114. I just moved. It involved driving for 12 hours (this is in the car, not the truck) through 5 different states. I have the desire, but not the energy, to be able to attend NYCC this year. However, when I’m not unpacking I will be reading a book I have not read yet. Obviously it will be a Tor book, but I haven’t decided which.

  115. I will be making my bedroom extra-fabulous by re-painting the walls a lovely sky blue color, hanging chocolate brown curtains, and finally–at long last–putting some framed prints on the walls!

  116. While I’m not at NYCC, I will be teaching students engineering and environmental science. I use lots of science fiction examples and recommend your website!

  119. I hope to get the chance to see Gravity this week. Other than that, I’ll keep plowing through the books I just picked up at the Friends of the Library sale.

  120. I’ll be cuddling with my guinea pig while writing my young-adult fantasy novel. It’s epic on both levels, then, making up a little bit for the fact that I’m #NotAtComicCon.

  121. I will be wrangling kids, laundry, and housework while checking Facebook and email and catching up on shows and anime on Hulu and Netflix. And maybe some blogging. πŸ™‚

  122. While #NotAtComicCon this weekend, I plan on attempting to finish a commissioned piece and writing some fanfiction.

  123. Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. Going to be eating some turkey-lurkey with the family. Some of the cover art on the books in the prize pack photo are amazing though. Going to have to track them down and have a closer look!

  124. I will be heading to a theater to see “Gravity.” And playing with my five kids. My 12-year-old daughter always complains she doesn’t have anything new to read, so this would really be awesome.

  125. I’ll be thinking about not getting to go to Comiccon. Health issues kept me home, but we gave our tickets to our oldest son and his girlfriend and he already got me the autographs of the Atomic Robo guys!

  126. I’ll be playing dodge ball with elementary kids and then going through my twitter to see all the awesome pictures from NYComicCon

  127. homework! creating a classroom management plan, reading for my philosophy class, making lesson plans for my reading class, and finishing up reading the house on mango street

  128. It’s going to be a LONG, COLD, snowy winter . What better way to spend it than reading this prize. It makes you not miss getting to go to
    Comic Con so much.

  129. #NotAtComicCon
Radiation treatment for throat cancer, unable to go anywhere…
Except into the many worlds of Tor
    Books!
That is the highlight of this down time, trying to catch up on my reading!

  130. While #notatcomiccon I will be replacing the supports on the porch of our house. It doesn’t sound exciting until you think about it: a thousand pounds of concrete, six-by-six beams, and lots of heavy lifting = pretty extreme. (Also, hopefully, finally reading the new Jim C. Hines, which definitely qualifies.)

  131. It is supposed to be sunny here so I will be out riding and slaying dragons. I would love to join you but really there is that pesky dragon that needs a stern talking to. Have fun at Comic Con

  132. Not at Comicon, because I’m finishing up recording my 6th album, Forest Spirits. I’ll be playing a Native American ash flute that was made from a 75-year old tree that blew down in our 103-acre wood. We’ll be recording it in the place where the tree used to stand. Would love some new books for when I’m done, though!

  133. Nothing too exciting, but since I am #NotAtComicCon, I am going to be reading (shocker!), playing video games, sleeping…. and of course the reason I couldn’t go… working! Booooo!! (Hope it was amazing!!)

  134. Though I have read some of the books in the bundle, others I have not. I would enjoy reading the new titles and re-reading the old.

  135. While #NotAtComicCon, I’m watching my toddler son frolic through the park, looking at the world with wide eyes of discovery. Everything here is part of his fantasy world, and he is the conquerer!

  136. I’m #NotAtComicCon because I’m a student, so I’m sitting in my dorm room, doing schoolwork, writing/reading in my free time, and being jealous of everyone at #NYCC.

  137. Why am I doing since Im not at CC? Studying for my Russian exam so I can ace and then spend sometime reading πŸ™‚

  138. While I am not at comic con I will be at work updating and fixing computers, at second job doing accounting work, and in my free time doing homework so some day I will finally have my college degree ( maybe by the time I’m ninety). If I’m really lucky I might squeeze some recreational reading in there at some point. πŸ™‚

  139. I couldn’t afford to be at NYCC but I will be there in spirit as I read several graphic novels and manga while wearing my Wonder Woman wristband and tee and checking my Twitter for all the NYCC news! Keep the awesomeness coming! <3

  140. This week I am fabulously taking a certification course to drive ambulances, enjoying a visit from my family, and celebrating my birthday. πŸ™‚

  141. I’ll be changing diapers, doing housework, finishing up some research and (if I’m lucky), getting some reading and writing done when my wife has our little one. NYCC would be a close second to this! πŸ˜‰

  142. I won’t be at Comic Con. Instead, I’ll be working on setting up my freelance writing business and finishing my first draft of my first fantasy novel.

    #NotAtComicCon

  143. Taking my daughter to try out for All State band and reading good SF/F while waiting on her auditions! πŸ™‚

  144. While I’m #NotAtComicCon, I will be….
Running sound for a Gospel concert, reading/proofing my wife’s story’s plot, working my butt off in the hot Florida sun, selling entry/player packs for a disc golf Ace Race, and wishing I had more time to read.

  145. I won’t be at ComicCon, but I will be cleaning my house, cooking my husband dinner, grading science tests, reading Republic of Thieves, and working on lesson plans for next week. If I’m lucky, I might throw back a cider or two somewhere in there and have a few laughs with the hubby. πŸ™‚

  146. While not at comic con i went to a concert, have been babysitting my nephew and will be starting a new book. Would love a chance to win a tote of books.

  147. While I won’t be able to attend comiccon #NotAtComicCon, I will be translating a religious conference from English into the Yapese language spoken by a group of people in Micronesia who don’t wear clothes and have giant stone discs as money.

  148. Planning my move to Scotland. I very well might be keeping my girlfriend company while she saddle fits. Therefore, I will have a lot of driving time and waiting around time to read :D.

  149. My second son was born 3 weeks ago so I am staying home with my family and putting him to sleep every 3 hours as he tries to stay up and continue searching for entertainment. Listening to the Wheel of Time audiobooks to drown out the screaming in my ear. =)

  150. I will be plugging away at three chapters of Astronomy homework and tests, while sneaking in some time for fun reading (New Spring) and sneaking in some time to follow the Kansas City Chiefs as they hopefully go 6-0!

  151. While not at Comic-Con I will be slaving away trying to get through midterms and the first drafts of my final papers for the semester so I can graduate on time.

  152. I’m working. Wishing I was there. I guess that is not that fabulous but there it is. If I won I could show off the swag to my wife and convince her to go next year though…

  153. While not at NYCC, I am spending my weekend learning everything about the anatomy of the human head. Because that’s obviously much more fun. #notatcomiccon

  154. I’ll be cleaning out my gas floor heater & turning it on high to burn off the dust the vacuum doesn’t get, while it’s still warm enough to air out the house. Fall has come to SoCal. Yes, I know — riveting!
(Also, regular weekend cleaning chores – the excitement never ends.)

  155. The most fabulous thing I’m doing this week is a Disney movie day with my best friend. Between classes and work and homework my life is kind of lacking in fabulous lately.

  156. While not at Comic con I will be in up state NY hoping to find Omeggang’s Game of Thrones Themed beers.

  157. This weekend I have been caring for daughter. Asthma flare ups are a pain but we are making the best of it by catching up on some movies and cuddling.

  158. While #NotAtComicCon I’ll be marking 40 student assignments! Huzzah. πŸ™

I’m also making pot roast though, so that’s pretty good.

  159. While I was not at NYCC, my best friends and I did a road trip down to Austin City Limits to see the band Matrimony play. On our way back to the hotel, the sky opened up, and we may as well have showered in our clothes. We were completely soaked, but it was so worth it. I can’t wait to see y’all again at the Texas Library Association annual conference in San Antonio! Librarians FTW!

  160. While not at comiccon, I’ll be at home reading, doing chores, and wishing I were there. Enjoy it!

  161. Working and moving two cats, a puppy and myself into my sisters newly renovated garage from a three bedroom house.

  162. I will be exploring the depths of my local used book stores basement! I recently discovered the shelf-cramped catacombs of this wonderful place. There are thousands of books simply waiting to be read, and possibly a hundred or so waiting for me to buy them!

  163. Huge fan of Tor books!!!!! Would love to win this. Wish I could show my appreciation to all of you in person.

  164. While I’m #NotAtComicCon, I’ll be doing some unpacking at my new apartment in between doing some preschool lesson planning.

  165. While not at NYCC I’ll be recommending books to kids as a librarian by day and baking delicious treats at night.

  166. Since I am not at New York Comic Con, I am at home, spending time with my daughter, enjoying the 3 day weekend, doing my Borderlands 2 100k Loot Hunts and just all around waiting for tonight for Season 4 premier of The Walking Dead.

  167. Though I will not be at New York Comic Con, I will be watching some scary movies, hanging out with a few friends and lending a hand to my best friend who is working on costumes for the local zombie walk.

  168. I will be working on my phd school work; sadly starting this program has left me little time to continue down my path of reading all Hugo Award Winners and Nominees…

  169. I will be working all week at my new job and looking for a new rental the rest of the time. Oh and reading/taking a visit to Discworld. Thank you Mr. Pratchett πŸ˜‰

  170. While I’m #NotatComicCon this week, I’ll be working my regular 40, working on marketing and promotional materials for my first book (due out on Oct 31), and hooking up with my gaming group over Skype for a few late night dungeon raids.

  171. I’ll be reading about ComicCon on Facebook and the rest of the internet and wishing I was there. πŸ˜€

  172. I will be making computer programs for my new degree, and if I have time start writing again.

  173. I was going to be working this weekend, but due to an unforeseen knee injury I will be reading a few more chapters of my re-read of “The Way of Kings.” So excited for “Words of Radiance”!!! πŸ˜€

  174. Saturday scoured estate sales for that perfect treasure (that I didn’t know I needed) & Sunday enjoying the long needed rain, coffee, and a good book.

  175. While I’m #notatcomicon I’ll be doing fall yard work (leaves!) and trying to finish up one of 3 books I am working on.

  176. Being #notatcomiccon, I went to the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. There were people in costume! …19th century dresses. Plus on the way home we saw some Amish folk in a carriage.

  177. One fabulous thing I’ll be doing (since I can’t be there) is finally cracking open my recently arrived book: The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch! Then I’ll be doing a book swap with a friend; I’m reading Alamut by Judith Tarr and she gets the amazing The Way of Kings!

  178. One fabulous thing I will be doing this week while not at New York Comic Con (I wish I could have gone, so thank you for this opportunity!) is the last mowing of the season (it’s way overdue, I know) of the front and back yard. Last week had too many things, but it was a great time with family. Oh, and I’m reading KINSLAYER by Jay Kristoff. It’s fantastic. I’m savoring every bit of it. It’s too good to rush it. Look for my review, soon.

  179. While I’m #NotAtComicCon, I am watching football, caring for my elderly cats, reading Brandon Sanderson book and of course looking at this picture of the bag of swag and yet remembering I never win anything.

  180. while #notatcomiccon I will be teaching at our elementary school where I work. Wishing I was in some rad cosplay hearing about the industry and upcoming releases.

  181. I’ll be doing stuff around the house because I am a furloughed federal worker. Wish I could be there!

  182. I’ll be catching up on some Green Lantern comics while continuing to work, and probably try to round out the week with some X-Wing Miniatures. Love some of the other ideas in these posts, though. Maybe its time for another Sanderson marathon, mixed with some Firefly for good measure.

  183. While #NotAtComicCon, I hope to marathon The Vampire Diaries and start reading The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. =D

  184. I am trying to decrease my backlog of purchased books to make room for these free ones that I am going to win. Thanks!

  185. While I’m not at ComiCon, I will be working on my first freelance writing job, hanging out with my family, reading “I am Not a Serial Killer” by Dan Wells to my blind friend, and reading “Steelheart” by Brandon Sanderson to myself.

  186. Well I’m not at comic con I’ll be working on 4 assignments in college and studying for my last mid-term. While doing all this I will be catching up on my Dune novels by Frank Herbert. As well as re-reading Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.

  187. While not at #NYCC I’ll be rockin’ my 16 day old new born to sleep and watching his dream spren!

  188. There is a backlog of minis awaiting my inexpert painting attempts and a dog demanding the use of a hand for scratchings. I believe I have a full week ahead of me.
