China’s best-selling and most beloved science fiction writer, Cixin Liu, will be joined by Hugo Award-winning sci-fi author John Scalzi (Old Man’s War) to discuss the art of sci-fi writing and the English-language publication of Liu’s groundbreaking trilogy The Three-Body Problem. A reception will be held afterwards where the authors will be signing their books, which will be available for sale.

Cixin Liu, or Da Liu, as he is affectionately called by his fans, is the most prolific and popular science fiction writer in the People’s Republic of China. Liu is an eight-time winner of the Galaxy Award (the Chinese Hugo) and a winner of the Nebula Award. Prior to becoming a writer he worked as an engineer in a power plant in Yangquan, Shanxi.

John Scalzi won the 2006 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, the 2013 Hugo Award for Best Novel for Redshirts, and his debut novel Old Man’s War was a finalist for Hugo Award. His other books include The Ghost Brigades, The Android’s Dream, The Last Colony, The Human Division and Lock In. He has won the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Award for science fiction, the Seiun, The Kurd Lasswitz and the Geffen awards. Material from his widely read blog opens in a new windowWhatever has also earned him two other Hugo Awards.

Not only is Cory Doctorow participating in the celebrated Children’s Book & Author Breakfast, he will also take part in various panels, signings and events around the city. Our own Hugo nominated Liz Gorinsky will moderate a Steampunk Author Stage featuring Tor authors Cherie Priest, Felix Gilman and Catherynne Valente. And speaking of steampunk, Cory & Cherie will also take part in School Library Journal’s Day of Dialog Steampunk Panel.

And in case that’s not enough steampunk for you, Liz will be hosting a Steam Salon at Madame X from 7-10pm on Tuesday night. Cherie Priest, Felix Gilman and George Mann will be in attendance.
